Vows? What's that....
It was a big deal when the Monica Lewinsky scandal aired... But now the cheating brand seems to be synonymous with American celebrities and influential leaders.
In 2006 it was Reese Witherspoon and her now ex-husband Ryan Phillipe. Phillipe was discovered through text messages on hid Blackberry.
In February of 2008 the Detroit Mayor Kwame Kilpatrick cheated on his wife Carlita. He was married for years and has three sons. In 2006 Beatty divorced her husband in pursuit of a married man. They were both convicted in 2008 for lying under oath.
In 2008 we have the Jon and Kate minus the 8 scandal. Jon wants to be a kid again, parties with college girls (friends as he calls them) and doesn't see the problem while his wife runs after his 8 seeds...
Then, John Edwards cheats on his wife with cancer and they've been married for 32 years!
Now, Senator Ensign, a member of the Promise Keepers (an organization that pledges Christian values and maritial faithfulness) pointed fingers at Bill Clinton and the mayor caught in the airport who was accused of trying to solicit gay sex. Now we find out that Sen Ensign has been cheating on his own wife! tsk tsk...
It seems that the bigger the britches the more they cheat? Or has it become socially acceptable for American men to cheat?
You tell me...
I don't think it has become socially acceptable for men to cheat. If you look at all the people that you have mentioned there profile has been diminish as a result of their action. John Edwards went from legitimate Presidential candidate and now he's dropped off the political map. Ryan Phillpe hasn't starred in any major movies as of late. My point is that society does tend to punish cheaters in one form or another. I believe that sometimes these high profile star believe they wont get caught but fail to realize that there are many media outlets and news travels faster than ever due to the ever changing landscape of technology(blogs, facebook, twitter, camera phones, txt's, etc)
ReplyDeleteTrue enough, yet cheating has become a social epidemic and part of the American cluture. The power of a man used to be a job and a family. Now it has become money, power, hoes and respect. It's funny that the black community plays down infidelity so much. I watch black shows like "The Game", "Girlfriends", "House of Payne",etc where the man is praised by his friends for cheating. A fellow African American female of mine shocked me with: "I know my husband is going to cheat on me if he's American so I'm marrying a foreigner in hopes of fidelity"...This has become the mindset of so many women worldwide. So, I dn't think its fair to say it's not accepted in the mainstream media but in the hoods of Compton and East Orange it's encouraged.
